| Just finished reading your very informative web site and wanted to send you a quick "Thank you".
Today, at a garage sale in my neighborhood, I purchased my "new friends". I believe I have a male & a female, the zebra type. They are just adorable and seem to be adjusting very well.
I started to search out some info on the web and came across your site and enjoyed it very much. So, thanks for your passion and interest. I will return often to see what's new. Sincerely,
Camille

| I just wanted to let you know how helpful your site has been for me. I adopted 3 Zebra finches about 6 months ago and before that, had never owned a bird in my life. I knew nothing about anything concerning the little feathered friends. Your site is my handbook now. I googled and found the Finch Niche and it is now in my favorites. Anytime I have a question, I come here first. I am happy to say we just had our first hatchling 3 days ago and they are doing great! Thank you so much for all of your useful information!! Sincerely,
April in Alabama

| Thank you soooooooooo very much. You have been very helpful to me and I love your advice. You've actually taken the time to listen to a young person like myself. I am very happy that you have. Your information has done great deeds. You will be highly rewarded one day. Thank you o so very much Myra. Your best friend

| Dear Myra, We have been learning about caring for our 3 society finches which we bought at a local birdshow recently.- In the process of trying to read up on them, we found your website.
Thank you for caring enough to have a website and write the articles and the FAQ about these birds, your writing is clear, easy to understand and very down-to-earth and it has helped answer a lot of our questions. While you must know there are many websites out there about finches, yours was easiest to get relevant, specific, useful info on raising our type.
We are not trying to breed them - just bought them for enjoyment. We are non-smokers and live a pretty organic lifestyle and our birds do also. We also have a pair of Spanish Timbrado Canaries - but they live in their own cages in the house.
Our next goal is to make our own outdoor aviary for the finches once we learn enough about how to safe-proof it from other city type animals etc. that may roam through our neighborhood. We live near to a creek, so occasionally raccoons stop by the yard foraging for anything to eat (we do our best to shoo them out when we see them), sometimes there are roof-rats (ugh) running by on the electric wires in the summertime and always, there are some stray cats in the neighborhood.
The breeder we purchased them from has not responded to our emails with basic questions about their parentage etc. and what type of diet he was feeding them versus what type of diet we are feeding them. We didn't know enough to ask these questions when we bought them at the bird show. Our finches were not even banded - so we don't even know how old they are. We're learning as we go and enjoying Huey, Dewey, and Louie a lot along the way.

| Kudos, Myra – I’ve been on-line looking over zebra finch info for weeks, and your site is by far the most helpful. The style and info is wonderfully conversational and accessible. You answered questions no one else came close to.

| Thank you for your very quick service on my order of perches. I've already installed them in my cages, and the birds are taking to them quite nicely. I will be sure to recommend your site to all my finch-raising friends.

| Let me begin by thanking you for the Finch Niche. For years, your site has greatly aided me in caring for my "birdie dozen" with a wealth of information that is often very hard to find elsewhere.

| Dear Ms. Markley, We would like to thank you for your voluminous information on your internet site concerning finches. You have instructed us more clearly than any books we have found on the topic. We were given 2 male zebra finches last May 2006. In August one of the male birds died so we found and started reading your site. We purchased a female zebra finch, a nest, and nesting material and within 1 week they had a clutch of eggs. We now have six healthy babies and 2 healthy parents thanks in part to your information. The female was egg bound at one time and the supplements we purchased from you helped when the cuttle bone alone didn't. The male seemed very weak at one point and a couple doses of the sick bird formula with his food perked him right up. The formula for molting has also been useful. The herbs are a great favorite with the birds! Please accept our thanks for all the information and supplies you have offered. We would not have felt comfortable to have the birds without all your information and the ability to get all the supplies that aren't even offered at regular pet stores. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

| Hi Myra =)
I just wanted to let you know that my little bald finch is doing much better =) All I can attribute it to is the Calcium plus that I bought from you right before you went on vacation. He has been on Feather Fast for at least 6 months - but didn't show any signs of change until I started adding the Calcium plus to his water. This is before (he has gotten a pedicure since this picture ;)
And this next picutre is today - his all over coloring looks so much better
I am wondering if Calcium Plus would also be good for my hookbills? (answer: Yes it would) I have one hen (BH Pionus) that is pretty plucked - her mate looks perfect - but she is a bit naked on her chest. If the Calcium is OK for hookbills - I will take pictures of her then start her on the same schedule that I have the Gouldians on (3 times a week).

| Dear Myra, I purchased zebra finches in April and your page is wonderful. I started reading it even before I bought my finches and it has guided me through all the aspects of finch behavior, nutrition, housing, breeding, etc. My pair laid eggs and the 4 nestlings are four weeks old.
Thank you and keep up the great work. Your dedication and professionalism is greatly appreciated.

| Dear Myra, I just wanted to let you know how helpful your Finchniche site is. I am a small, home breeder, and I refer to your writings and experience practically on a daily basis. Thank you so much for taking the time to put together such a helpful resource for everyone who wants to properly take care of their finches. I am also a researcher who uses the web extensively, and I must say - there isn't a better site for finch information anywhere on the net! You write so well, too - what a pleasure to read your words.
Some of my feathered friends, who have benefited from your advice: http://www.pbase.com/rebecka/awaywithbirds
A million thanks, and kudos to you,
Rebecka, Montclair NJ

| Thanks for your article on Avian Bird Flu. You are a good writer! Your article has put me at ease and is very informative. I'm sending it to some friends too. Lucy in NY
|
| thank you so much myra, your words of wisdom and encouragement are very appreciated. everything is going very well with both my finches and i cannot imagine not having my sweet little blind one, simply because he is blind. they have taught me that even the littlest things need alot of love and i am so lucky to have them with me. thanks again, your writing me back mean a great deal to me. Sandy

| I just want to THANK YOU for this wonderful site! I have 4 Gouldians, 2 Society, 2 Cordon Blue, 2 Orange Cheek Waxbill. I have had the Gouldians for 2 years and decided to build a large indoor aviary and include other species. Thanks to your web site, all is well and my birds are doing great. Just wanted to let you know that you got me thru this learning time and I will be checking in as I go! Carol
|
| Thanks for you in-sight as to the culling of finches, and to let them live if they so deem! I agree. I opened the site to find out about in-breeding, and found out what not to do. Very good information and I intend to read more when I can. Barbara - Charleston, SC

| | I wanted to thank you for your well constructed and informative site on finches. I am new to the finch world and happened upon them quite by accident.
A friend of my daughters found two zebra finches in a pickle jar with holes in the top in their apartment dumpster last year, in January no less and we live in Michigan. The birds were still alive and she brought them over to me because we had a left over hampster cage. We quickly let them into the cage and gave them a dish of water and they have not only survived but are doing quite well. I find it heart breaking what people will do when they no longer want pets.
My daughter built me quite a large cage for them aprox 6 feet tall and 3 feet square so they can not only perch but fly too. That in and of itself was quite a project as we had never built a bird cage before and didn't have any plans. We cleaned corkscrew willow branches to use as perches, bought feeding cups and used your site as a resource for the kinds of food for them.
A couple of weeks ago we bought a nest for them and low and behold I now have 3 eggs in it. So, again I am using your site to know what to do. The birds seem content and doing well.
I also have cats which find them fascinating to watch and will often spend time in the chair watching them. At night I shoo the cats out and close the door to the room the finches are in so they can sleep in peace and quiet far from the prying eyes of the cats.
So, again I just wanted to thank you for all the time and effort you have put into your web site for a novice fincher it has been a god send with information and stories. Debra Piliste

| I just wanted to say thank you SO much for this web site! It is by FAR the most comprhensive site for finches that I've seen so far (and I've seen a lot). Being in the veterinary field myself, I know that the advice given is excellent. So, keep up the WONDERFUL work! Thank you! Leanne

| I have been meaning to pop you an e-mail for the longest time to thank you for all your help last June. (I was the one who had 8 babies, they had been crushed into a way too small nest - 2 were kicked out and one had a broken leg)
It was a horrible time and you greatly helped me through it. One of the babies (the runt) unfortunately passed away, however, I do want to let you know that the little guy with the broken leg turned out to be a nothing less than a wonder and a joy! He made it SO worthwhile in the end. He ended up absolutely normal and I now have had this great opportunity to raise this tame little guy and I have discovered that there is NOTHING like a tame finch.
He is just so unbelievably brave, trusting, sweet and funny as all hell. So thank you - I never could have had the opportunity to have Mingus without you.

| Thank You so much for your hard work and dedication for helping us out here when we need it you are a very talented and respected lady. Roxie in Colorado

| Here is a picture of the baby finches I had to hand raise. They are now weaned and doing great. I couldn't have done it without your help. Between the information from your site and the personal communication from you, I gained enough knowledge to not only keep these babies alive, but help them thrive! Thank you so much for all your help. Your passion and dedication to these little birds is an asset to the avian community. Keep up the good work!. Cathy Atlanta, Georgia

| I want to say thank you for such an informative web site. It has been very handy for me and my other finches. I think it's great for finches everywhere and their owners that you made this forum. I just want you to know that I really appreciate it. Debbie

| JUST HAD TO LET YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I ENJOY YOUR WEB SITE,,,THANK YOU!! I JUST FINISHED HAND-FEEDING A PRECIOUS ZEBRA FINCH. HE LOVES PULLING OUR HAIR AND PREENING HIS 'DADDY'S' MUSTACHE, SO WE WENT TO OUR BIRD STORE AND PURCHASED SOME LITTLE TOYS FOR CASEY THAT CONSIST OF COLORFUL STRANDS OF STRAW WITH BELLS, ETC. CASEY PLAYS WITH THEM ALOT...WHEN HE'S NOT EATING...HIS CAGE MATE ENJOYS THEM TOO! I'VE HEARD SOOO MANY TIMES THAT IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO HAND-FEED BABIES AT NIGHT AS THEIR PARENTS DON'T.....NOT TRUE. IN THE BEGINNING WEEKS WHEN I GOT UP EVERY 3 HOURS TO FEED CASEY, I WOULD HEAR OTHER BABY FINCH BEING FED ALSO. Pamela

| Thank you so much for creating this website. I have tons of questions about finches, as I am a newbie to them, and have a male and female pair. They laid eggs almost immediately, and I just let it go. This past week they started to hatch. As the week progressed, I noticed that on what would be their necks were white pockets that looked pus filled. I was worried, so I hopped on the net. I spent most of today looking, and came across your site--the only one to actually cover that topic. Thanks for easing my mind and helping me learn more about my birds. Kirsten Gemoll

| Hi. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make such a great informative site on finches. It has been a while since I had a pet bird. I used to have a cockatiel when I was younger. I was recently thinking about getting some finches. I have always enjoyed watching and listening to them and we have no pets to liven up our household. I did a search on google and your site was the first I picked. Your site is very thorough about the main points of finches written for all ages. Also with great pictures. Thanks again. John

| Greetings Myra, Just want to wish you a Merry Christmas or Season's Greetings, whatever fits:)) I also want to say thankyou for your help. It's comforting to know that there are people like you out there on the web ready to help with good sound advice. You're a saint! I don't have any idea of the work involved in keeping your website going but I can just imagine it takes a lot of time and effort....and patience! Happy New Year too Myra, and thanks again. Sharon .. and Lucky

| Just a note to tell you how much I enjoyed your website! I built a solar greenhouse/aviary to the south side of my home in 1980 and had many wonderful experiences raising varoius waxbills and lonchura species. I had successes with, cordon bleus, senegal fire finches, red-eared waxbills, gold-breasted waxbills (tiny !), bronze-winged mannikins, cutthroat finches, and black-cheeked waxbills(beautiful!). In the summer of '93, with the cold and wet of that year, despite my attempts to keep the greenhouse as warm as possible, I lost all my babies that year. It was so sad, and the demands of my wildlife art business forced me to sell my birds to a breeder in Mansfield, Illinois named Betty Brant,(perhaps you know her), who had wonderful indoor facilities for them. It was difficult to give them up, but at the time it was for the best. I now am back into birds and loving it. I had my first experience hand-feeding two abandoned zebra finches last summer.
they were only a day old when I found them in the bottom of a cage of some first time parents. I videotaped their progress and despite the demanding task of raising them, i wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I know what you mean about being afraid to look in the morning to see if they were still alive. Snowflake and Little Toot are wonderful pets, and people are always fascinated to see tame finches. Well, i rambled on longer than I planned, but just had to tell you how much I enjoyed your site. William Deselms Roseville, Illinois

| I wanted you to know how much I appreciate your website. I am constantly referring back to your advice and ideas. My finches are much happier too in their new flight cage (that I pursued after reading many of your articles). They just had their first fresh vegetables yesterday. Thank you again. You have made a big difference! Mary Rice

| I never imagined that any bird hobbyist could be so helpfull , espesially in ther emails, to a novice breeder as me...............THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU soooo much Myra, for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stefan Australia

| I just want to personally thank you for the web site! I fell in love with Zebra Finches 3 years ago and have had a few since, mostly only for 'decoration', though I take great care! I was interested in hand raising one after the 1st time seeing your site. I, with MUCH help from your web site, have successfully for the first time and my 2nd attempt, hand raised a Zebra Finch! I know that I could not have done it without this wonderful web site!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! Melissa Z. Ohio

| btw, my girlfriend and I appreciate your webpage very much. She has the finches, and I thought I'd get them some new nests. The articles and info are great. Thanks again! Keith New York

| My canary took quite readily to the Herb Salad, and I noticed an immediate increase in her energy level. She received her first serving of Herb Salad in the morning and when evening time arrived, she seemed more alert and "spunky." She also began to make happy, triple chirp-like sounds, as if she was trying to sing. I hadn't heard her make these sounds in weeks. This behavior continued for three consecutive evenings following her introduction to Herb Salad. I'm pretty impressed! Jo Oklahoma

| Hi! I just want to compliment you on your website, which is beautiful! Plus, I am very happy with the perches I ordered! They are very reasonably priced and you ship fast! I am a very satisfied customer and so are my finches :) Thought you'd like a pic of the perch you sent with one of my birds enjoying it. Cindy Hegarty VA.

| I wanted to thank you so much for all of the help, support, and most of all information that you have provided. You didn't have to respond to my e-mails, but you did, and I truly appreciate it. Shannon

| I have e-mailed you for several times and I was always pleased with your answer. In fact, after visiting your website for several times, I considered you my finch consultant because all the material on finches is covered thoroughly and neatly. Besides, if there are any other problems, any finch fancier can contact you persoanlly via e-mail. Vaidotas Lithuania

| Just wanted to say thanks for answering my questions on your Q and A board. You are so kind to take the time to help people. It's kind of like a lifeline for those of us who are unsure about things due to being recent owners of finches. I'm glad you told me that it could take awhile for one of my females to lay eggs--otherwise I probably would have ended up with surprise babies at some point, due to not checking the nest. I love to give them nests since they seem to enjoy it so, even though it's harder to prevent babies with nests in the cage. I sure would enjoy letting them breed, but would be too worried about whether or not the babies went to good homes. These birds are so darned cute!!
Thanks again for all you do--you are a great person! Ellen Jareckie Vermont
|
| I can't begin to tell you how incredibly helpful your "dosage conversions" information page is! Until now, I could find nothing out there that helped me figure out proper dosages for a single, pet canary. The info you have provided makes things so much easier, and provides peace of mind, knowing that the amount I'm giving my little bird is an accurate, proper dosage. Thank you so very, very much!
When I need some more product, I'm coming to your site! Jo Gunter

| I just wanted to thank you for such a thoughtful and informative, all in one site. Every question I had was found at the Finch Niche. Thank you kindly, Gwendolyn.

| Hi! I don't know if you remember me. I was the one with the sick female black cheek zebra. I bought the calci boost and used it just like you said. I am happy to say she is doing great!! She is almost well enough to go back in the aviary but I'm giving her a little extra time to build her strength. Thank you so much for you help. The one thing that I was worried about most, eggbound, was not the case this time. Thank god!! I'm glad I went to you for help. I am in a couple finch groups and they are great but there are too many opinions on things like this. So I figured anyone that takes the time to build a website like yours has to know what they are talking about. Again thank you for helping me save my bird. I am soooo grateful!!! Keep up the awesome work!! Lisa Scarber. IL

| I'm sure you've only heard this a thousand times, but thats not going to stop me. Your site is amazing, I remember a few years ago (I was 11 or 12 at the time) when I was so obsessed with Zebra Finches, yet my parents wouldn't let me get a pair quite then. Your site was probably the ite I went to most on the net, yet I slowly fell out of the obsession, thus losing the URL.
But, now, a few years later, I'm currently 15 now, I've started doing research again, and to my suprise I discovered your site again!
Well, now my parents have chosen to get rid of our 4 cats, due to the fact that we don't have enough money to get them checked up at the vet, or fixed at the moment. (They seam to keep finding their way outside the lil devils, that and they're getting into the nasty habit of marking area's around the house which they like to claim as theirs... ) The up side of it all, is I'm going to be allowed to get a bird or two, and my first choice had been a Zebra Finch. I've spent a vast majority of my free time doing research on the little critters. And by far, your site has been the most helpful!
Hopefully I am prepared for some of the less shocking aspects of being a Zebra Finch owner, having only looked at hundreds of sites and books, lol. :) I wish you the best of luck with what you've already accomplished! And be assured, I will continue to use this page as reference, even after I've read each and every article 5 times each.
Zoe. Minnesota

| Can I just say - WOW!!!
I am so impressed by your informative site - it's GREAT and I printed all the pages out to study, especially since I'm a novice bird lover and my finches just layed an egg... The expecting mother (me) is so thrilled. Thank you, Keep up the great work! Nicole. Utah

| I have purchased from you before, and you have ALWAYS written me back with thanks, and offers of help.
As I have my very first Gouldian clutch, I am looking at your website again, and find it so down to earth, informative, funny (love your father's quips) and just plain helpful.
But, really Myra, you are great.. and, I have to say, much more friendly and informative than that OTHER fancy Gouldian site. Keep up the good work, hope to hear from you (you have lots of experience on chicks, and things that go wrong, I'm sure)and hope you had a great holiday!

| Just wanted to tell you that the book you wrote on handfeeding baby finches is just the greatest book. I now feel good that it is in my library just in case I encounter such a situation. Ellen Jareckie. VT

| Myra, I'm awful with words or being able to express myself. I really admire you. I don't think I've shared this with you yet, but your ability to write so descriptively, with such feeling, humor and you embrace things as if your able to place yourself inside, like this story of Dev and see the world through her eyes, to the point I not only am able to envision exactly what your writing, but I can feel it too! Mamie. Virginia

| I found your site while looking for finch things for my wife. I am a webmaster and spend more time on the computer than I should. I would like to commend you on the content/information you have placed on your site.
I have viewed several books she has purchased and they do not cover issues like you have. Keep up the good work. Jerry. OH

| I hope all these emails are not a bother to you, Im just a happy grandmom! 3 out of the five eggs have hatched! I am so excited!!!! I noticed the 3rd one today. I am hoping they all do well and maybe the other 2 might hatch as well. If not, 3 is just fine. I find your page to be the best one I have encountered. It is very informative. Keep up the good work! Nina. Pennsylvania

| I wanted to say that you have a great site, and obviously a wonderful sense of humor, which makes the reading so much fun. I am just at the beginning of seriously breeding Finches, hopefully Spice and I'm looking for a pair each of Owls and Gouldians. I have bred Zebras, but now want to branch out. Your site has given me so much knowledge and I look forward to studying it. Gillian Romain. Arizona

| I was just writing to say that this is the best information I have been able to get about my finches. This web page has helped me out with my zebra finches and society finches. All the pet stores I have have been to act as if they don't know anything about them. So I just wanted to say thanx! Heather Scott. South Carolina

| | Since I was Thirteen years old I worked helping and healing people through Tarot readings and all things related to Esoterism and white Magic. I love animals so Ive had lots of different pets since I was a young girl: dogs, cats, budgies, fishes, doves...
Two years ago I got a severe deppression due to the death of people near me and the pressure of trying to solve other people's problems. I was so weak I could hardly get off my bed cos it complicated with an odd case of anemia.I tried to commit suicide several times and I thought life had no meaning for me at all.
A couple of months ago I started recovering and, on my young brother's birthday, my husband bought for me a couple of Zebra Finches. He said it would be easy for me to take care of them (we already had a nymphicus hollandicus, two cats and a dog). I have to say I absolutely fell in love with them as they were really happy and trustful.
My grandfather was a budgie breeder so I knew, more or less, how to take care of them. When I started searching through the web about zebra finches, again it was my husband's idea to become a breeder. I could work at home at get completely recovered from my illness. It only needed time, and it was all i had in the world.
Since then I've bought about ten other finches; bengalese, orange-cheeked, white-headed mannikins...and I have to say birds have changed me. I'm almost completely recovered and they have done for me in three months what doctors couldn't do in two years. I never thought something so small could give so much happiness and cause so much interest in me.
I also have to thank breeders and bird lovers like you for giving people the chance to learn so much for free. Without people like you people like me wouldn't be giving a try to life. Thank you.
I hope with this you can see that what you do is important not only for birds, but also for people. Thank you again.

| I wanted to thank you for the page on Dev Null.I had a baby finch that was thrown out of the nest the very next day it hatched.I put it back in the nest but the mother would not feed it.I had no idea what to do,so I went online and found your website.Thank God I did,Since then I've been feeding him and doing everything your website said to do.Right now he is 2 months old and very healthy. Also he loves to be with people. he loves to sit in your hand and watch tv and everything that is going on.It was such a blessing to see him grow from 1 day old to now.So I just want to thank you again and how much I appreciate your website and Tweety also thanks you! | My daughter, Lori (13 yrs old), rescued a femmale Zebra Finch last year flying along the ground on the playground of her school. She nursed it back to health. A year later she decided to introduce a male Zebra Finch and a nest. The first clutch never hatched. The second clutch is six eggs. Today, Mother's Day, she was so excited to discover two baby birds! We found your site today while looking for information about what is best for taking care of this first time mother and chicks. Thank you for a wonderful site with a great deal of useful information. Sincerely, Sandy (mother of Lori). AZ

| I'm also grateful for Myra's crop syringe which arrived today. It is wonderful. For the first time since I've been feeding this guy (a week now) he ate without getting his crop full of air. He very happily hunkered down for a nap after his feeding. I've very impressed. It was so easy to use, too. Thanks, Myra. Stephanie. TX

Without Myra and her wonderful advice, I would of not known what to do and how to take care of them up until now. She has been there all the time for me within minutes, answering all my needs. It is wonderful to have someone like this at any time helping you out since I am a first time bird owner. Myra is very knowledgable and everyone who is a bird lover or first time owner will benefit from the Website and having Myra answer all. Thanks and I hope I have wonderful finches as they grow. Thanks for making life simplier for us here in my Miami Finch home. Lydia Kordalewsk. Miami, Florida

| I visited your website this morning to see if I could find information about finch care. I just purchased my first two finches this past weekend and I want to make sure that I take proper care of them. I was very impressed with your website. I couldn't believe all of the information that you had available about finches and how thorough you were! I just want to say thank you very much. I appreciate it. Heidi Meza. California

| Just a quick note to tell you how much I love your site. It has been so helpful and has often given me confidence that I'd be able to do "the finch thing." Your information is great and so well organized. I sure appreciate all that it has taken to put together such a complete site. Thanks again. The Ogawa Family. Loveland, Colorado

| Thank you very much for your great web site. All I've needed to know about my finches I have learned here. I now have 6 healthy babies and could not be happier. This is my first pair of birds and certainly not my last. Thank you for everything. Sincerly, Mark Rowell. USA

| Hi Myra, Thanks so much for your quick reply. I'm a teacher who's last bird experience was 12 years ago. Never had finches before or a pair of ANYthing before. I'm soooo in love with these two guys(actually, a guy and a girl...I think). Only 48 hrs home from the pet shop and all their life-skills are complete and up and running, furnishing their nest(I know, I couldn't help it...the little bamboo basket looked so cozy at Pet-Smart and the nights here have been cold), bathing, preening, singin' and swingin'. Right now they are both hanging freestyle from a dangling millet spray looking for all the world like they never left their homeland. And this is the adjustment period!
Girl-I-Think is tailess and I was extremely relieved to see you address this on your site. Your repartee was highly informative AND humorous. No need to reply, just wanted to say thanks...having a lot of fun trying to learn how to do this right or semi-right. Sherry in N'Awlins, Louisiana
